Here's a little about me. I am a born and raised New Orleanian. I love to cook, craft, and read. I graduated valedictorian from Dillard University, a small HBCU in my home town, in 2015.
I have been a teacher for 7 years now. I started with Teach for America and stayed in my home state of Louisiana. I really wanted to impact my immediate community. I started in elementary, but soon moved up to middle school. Now I teach talented in theatre to middle schoolers.
I am certified K-5 and am great with any elementary subjects. I have different and fun ways to help things "stick." I'm also comfortable tutoring middle schoolers and adults. As far as high school, I graduated in 2010 and I never want to go back. Haha!
My teaching philosophy is to meet students where they are and set reasonable goals. Reaching these "baby goals" not only boosts the student's confidence, but also makes that big goal closer and more attainable. Also, the dopamine release that comes from reaching a goal, reinforces the idea that they're getting a reward when they learn something new or reach a new educational goal, "tricking them" into loving to learn.
Songs, games, dance, movement. Just a few of the techniques I like to incorporate into the learning process.
