Hi,
I have been tutoring Math for over 14 years for various grades: Middle School, High School, and College. Math is a wonderful subject once you understand it. My primary objective is to help you love Math and enjoy it. Once that is established, nothing will stop you from excelling at Math.
Diplomas:
I hold a PhD in Wireless Communications, M.S. in Telecommunications, and B.S. in Electrical Engineering.

Tutoring Methods:
My tutoring methods involve direct engagement with the student to make sure he/she is really understanding what I am explaining. I always try to provide real life scenarios where certain formulas are applied. This approach helps the student remember the equation or even reconstruct it again based on the scenarios discussed. Everything in Math is applied in our daily life but we are unaware of it because we do not pay attention to it but that does not mean it does not exist. After most sessions, I assign few problems for the student to work on them at home before our next sessions (these assignments could be chosen from the textbook or I could formulate them myself). This method affirms student understanding of the subjects covered.

Guarantees:
I can guarantee you that if you follow the steps I pass onto you, I have no doubt that you will not only pass the class but also end up with an A. That's based on experience and not talk. Once you understand Math, you will love it. Once you love it, you will excel at it. As simple as that.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy involves direct engagement with the student to make sure he/she is really understanding what I am explaining. Real-life scenarios and how these formulas are applied in our daily life provide the student a great deal of understanding. In most cases, this approach helps the student remember the equation or even reconstruct it again based on the scenarios discussed. Everything in Math is applied in our daily life, but we are unaware of it because we do not pay attention to it. However, not noticing it does not mean it does not exist. After most sessions, I assign few problems for the student to work on them at home before our next session (these assignments could be chosen from the textbook or I could formulate them myself) to affirm complete student understanding of the subjects discussed.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In my first session, I will try to get a feel of the weaknesses of my student. I'd like to hear his view first. Then, I will prompt him with some basic questions to make sure he is on the right track and not lacking fundamental basics. Then, the student will be asked to share his/her analysis on how they approached the problem. This way, I can construct a great image on where the student stands and in what particular aspect he needs help the most.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help a student become an independent learner by asking him/her to read the material and try to apply it in front of me. I'll intervene when necessary, but struggling in learning is what sticks the most in the student's brain. If I solve the student's assignment, the student will learn nothing. On the other hand, by prompting the student to put an effort to understand the subject at hand, and only intervening when necessary, it will lead to great student overall performance.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

There are many ways to help the student stay motivated, some of which are:

  1. Link the covered topics to certain things that the student like the most (such as toys, movies, etc.)

  2. Also, showing appreciation and praising the student always motivates the student to give his/her best.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would try to dissect the concept into small problems and work at each one separately. Also, providing real-life applications always helps.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I'd be willing to help them understand the problem by visualization, if possible, and/or ask them to look up difficult vocabulary in the dictionary.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

A primary technique is assigning homework to be completed before the next session. Also, ask the student questions throughout the tutoring session to make sure he is on the same page.
