Jillian
Certified Tutor
我目前在临床Ps博士生ychology program. Teaching is a fundamental part of this period in my academic career and I am excited to have the opportunity to teach, tutor, mentor and provide advisement to others. I have tutored grades K-9 as well as college level students. I am very patient and diligent in making sure students understand material. There is a special talent in being able to break down complex material in a way that others can engage with and recall for later use. I enjoy cultivating that talent. I believe that learning should be fun and lessons should be engaging because students remember material better that way. I am invested in making sure my students understand their problem areas, how they learn best and strategies for improvement in order to carry these skills into the academic setting when tutoring is completed. I want to help you improve your grades and empower you in your academic life.

What is your teaching philosophy?
There is no such thing as a stupid question. Confusion can be a good thing, it means you are in the process of learning, and you haven't set yourself up to believe things that may be incorrect.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I will ask them about what motivates them and find out more about their learning style to engage them in the way that they learn best. In this way, they can use their strengths to progress, learn effectively and have a desire to learn more because they have increased self-efficacy.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I motivate students by reminding them of all the progress they've made in their lessons. I ask them about their goals and remind them about how important their work is in order to progress towards the completion of their goals.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I will go step by step to figure out what they are having problems with. I will ask them to explain out loud what their thought process is when they are figuring out a skill or concept, and I give support throughout so that they feel comfortable.
