What is your teaching philosophy?
Small goals and recognition of accomplishments are a useful to maintaining motivation.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Learning is rarely independent. We rely on books, teachers, tutors, and the Internet. I believe that the goal is to become a resourceful learner. When a student knows how to seek information, he or she will feel independent and empowered.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In an initial session, I strive to understand where the student has strengths and weaknesses. This means the tutor must meet the student and understand how the student approaches the subject so that the tutor can work side by side with the student.
