What is your teaching philosophy?
Dr. Seuss wrote, and I agree, that "A person's a person, no matter how small." Any student with the willingness and ambition to learn should have a leader to facilitate that learning. I'd like to be that person for whoever is interested in English!
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can help a student become an independent learner by providing him or her with interesting and engaging materials that allow for self practice and discussion based on the material they are working with.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would help a student stay motivated by setting up a system of rewards and checklists that is specific to them. If their main goal is to be ready for a standardized test, I will work with their parent or guardian to make sure there is a larger reason for the student to receive a reward (that they may not know about!) when they have completed their goal. I might also ask the student (depending on age) how they can "treat" him or herself once his or her goal is met.
