What is your teaching philosophy?
Every student can learn, no matter the age or the stage.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Introductions are a must!
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By working with them in becoming an independent learner.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By being supportive and encouraging.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Break the concept down in its simplest terms.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
By dissecting the reading material.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Listening to the student's concerns, and planning tutoring sessions around those concerns.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
By providing them with fun resources to show them that the subject can be interesting and exciting.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Going back through the material and asking imperative questions.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Start with simple questions, and build on them little by little.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
By using a pre-test assessment.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
By providing the student with a questionnaire to find out likes, dislikes, and related hobbies.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Worksheets, videos, and interactive questions.
