I am a Penn State University graduate with a major in Kinesiology and currently working as a nurse. This has given me experience on how to educate people of different ages about complex ideas by breaking down the concepts one at the time and making them simple. I love tutoring biology, Spanish, and math. Since it can be a lot of material, it can be a little overwhelming if you don't understand or are lacking a good foundation. My goal is to teach students to understand the subject like a teacher does. Once you can explain it to me, in your own words, the information tends to stick and you're ready for any test!

What is your teaching philosophy?

Anybody can learn anything. Is just a matter of understanding the subject, and/or how it is taught.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Try to identify the best way that student learns. Some of us are visual, and others learn by hearing, or doing. Maybe associate it with something the student likes.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Consistency on scheduling the classes, in order to study weekly and not last minute cramming, and in order to reduce test anxiety. Communication is crucial when planning the class ahead of time in order to target what are the goals and objectives of the student for that particular session and establish a feeling of trust with the student.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Explain on their own words the main ideas, and have them take assessments.
