Certified Tutor

我一直教西班牙语和英语(所有标准ls) for ten years from K-12 and for 3 years I have taught college level Spanish. A sense of humor is almost indispensable! I enjoy very much teaching Spanish/Romanian because teaching is one of my passions. I have a BA in Spanish and English from the University of Michigan and I have a MAT in Spanish from Wayne State University. I have traveled to Spain in order to learn more about the Spanish Culture. I also studied abroad in 2003 in Oaxaca, Mexico, in 2005 in Valencia, Spain, and in 2009, I finished my Master Thesis in Spain.

I am also fluent in Romanian because I was born and raised in Romania. I have finished all my education in Michigan.

As a young child I have enjoyed studying geography. Teaching geography is a pleasure for me, because I believe that it is very important to know where different countries, mountains, oceans, rivers and etc are located on a map.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that education is an individual, unique experience for every student who enters a college/university classroom. In order for students to benefit from what colleges/universities offer, I think that professors must fully understand the importance of their job. First, I believe that professors must consider teaching to be a lifestyle, not a mere job, because a professor's goals for his/her students encompass much more than relaying out-of-context facts to passive students. As professionals entrusted with the education of young minds, professors must facilitate learning and growth academically, personally, and ethically. By providing a quality education to each individual in one's classroom, a professor equips students with the necessary tools to succeed in life.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I will typically will spend about 5 minutes to introduce myself to the student and the student to me, and I am trying to get to know a little bit the student too.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Imagining yourself in another person's situation so you can understand the reasons that he/she feels a certain way or "walking a mile in someone else's shoes."

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Set high, yet realistic expectations. Make sure to voice those expectations. Set short-terms goals and celebrate when they are achieved.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

If the student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, I try to use different strategies to explain the same skill.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I will have the students complete simple text summary activities to help them get a better idea of which aspects of comprehension they find difficult.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

It is so important to keep all lines of communication open.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

By making the subject more fun and interesting.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

我将使用出口下滑,因为这是一种方法to see if the student understood the material. I also use short quizzes and short conversations.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By praising the student every time that the student is answering correctly. By giving the student confidence in himself/herself; then they will improve quickly too.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I use different assessments strategies to evaluate the student's needs.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I try to make myself available as many times as the student needs me.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I use different materials, but it also depends on what subject I am teaching.
