Certified Tutor

I graduated from medical school at Westhill University and completed three years of surgical training in several hospitals, here and abroad. As an undergraduate, I studied fine arts and French at l'alliance franaise.

Throughout my clinical and surgical education I taught interns, medical students, nurses and other kind of medical staff. These years of experience helped me to improve in problem solving skills and undoubtedly increased my understanding of basic science. I currently work at UT Southwestern medical center at the Neuroscience Department.

I currently tutor in Pharmacology, Microbiology, Immunology, Physiology, Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, biochemistry, and Medical genetics. My favorite subject is Anatomy and Neuroanatomy. I have always been captivated by the structure of the human body and specially the structure of the brain. I also love teaching languages! Communication is all we have. A proper and efficient communication among us can be life-changing. So let's learn!

I tutor because I enjoy sharing knowledge and contributing to the society in my own way. When I teach I like using real-life scenarios either in the medical or linguistic field so the students fully grasp and understand the subject. This method has helped several of my students to succeed and master different subjects.

In my spare time I enjoy skating, playing the piano and painting.

What is your teaching philosophy?

"Study without thought is vain: thought without study is dangerous."

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By showing him or her that anyone is capable of achieving every kind of goal. The key is to know what works better for them (visual or auditory stimuli).

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By showing him good results just by devoting a little time every day! Steadiness comes from commitment and character.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Look for other input. If he's not responding properly to oral explanations, he would probably respond better to drawings or visual input.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

We can read and analyze it together. By showing him some techniques, like coloring code or note taking after each paragraph.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Drawings.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

By showing them their progress, whether it is little or big.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Repetition and feedback.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By assessing them with quizzes and presentations.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

By asking directly where they feel weak regarding the subject they want to master and by asking them what they don't want from the lectures.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

If a student is not grasping the subject appropriately, I would change my technique in order to meet his needs and fulfill his expectations.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Flash cards, charts, mind maps, and drawings.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Talk to him about his needs and expectations from the lectures.
