What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that teaching is a learning experience, not only for the student but also for the instructor. Together, we are a team. I aim to provide you with the most comprehensive and concrete learning experience I am able to give you!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I will introduce myself and break the ice. I will then ask them what they are struggling with and give them a brief overview of the topic in question. After this, I will explain the concept using as many simple words as I can to aid understanding.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

In order to help students become independent learners, I intend to encourage independent study in between session times. I will do this by encouraging them to read their textbooks and take notes. I will also quiz them during, or after, the session in order to help them consolidate what they are learning.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help a student stay motivated by providing them with the moral encouragement that they need. I will capitalize on their strengths and help them find ways to use those strengths to their advantage.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or a concept, I would use visual cues/examples to help them learn and relate the skill or concept to real-world ideas or events.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

If a student is struggling with reading comprehension, I would stop them after each sentence or paragraph and ask them to paraphrase or summarize what they just read. If they are still struggling, I will help them define any words that they may not be familiar with.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I find that providing students with visual examples is the most successful method of teaching because most of us are visual learners.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I believe that the best way to help a student get excited about a subject is to make it seem relevant to their experience in the real-world.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would explain the topic in a concrete manner and quiz them during the session to ensure adequate comprehension.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I would build a student's confidence in a subject by helping them to recognize their unique strengths, whether it be vocabulary or comprehension, etc.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I would evaluate a student's needs by assessing their individual weaknesses and trying to find ways to help them get around it. For example, if the person struggles due to poor short-term memory function, I will suggest using visual cues for a complex concept.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I will assess the student's strengths and weaknesses and hone in on those strengths. If they are a visual learner, for example, I will use plenty of visual cues during the lessons.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

我将使用一个文本板画和explain more challenging concepts.
