What is your teaching philosophy?

Each one; teach one.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

介绍。然后,find out what the student knows and what the student needs help with.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By asking the student to explain how they get to their answers. That way, they get a chance to test if they really understand a concept.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By keeping the student engaged.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would take the time to figure out what exactly is causing the difficulty, and work on it with the student.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would find out what the student's hobbies are and connect them with the lesson.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I like asking students to teach me the material and to explain to me how they get to a certain answer.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By tracking the student's progress and also letting him/her know that he/she is doing well.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I usually ask the student to explain a concept to me or to tell me as much about the material as they can; that way I assess how much they know and go from there.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I find it most successful to connect the material with things that interest the student.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I adapt my tutoring by adjusting my pace and changing methods, based on my student's needs

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I really enjoy using a whiteboard and markers.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I ask the student to tell me a joke or recount a story. I write it down verbatim and work on the student reading it a few times with me. By reading a story or joke that he or she knows, he or she is better able to grasp the meaning of the words. I also like to use pictures or to act out words in order to help the student.
