I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I have been teaching and tutoring, and mentoring students for over thirty years. I've taken a lot of classes too. And in my experience, there are two types of teachers. The first type wants to "challenge" the students by making things are hard as possible. The second type helps the student really "understand" the subject by making it as easy, and clear, and straight forward as possible.

I always try to be the second type.

My goal is that every student will get a 100% on every test.

I taught economics and statistics at the college and university level for twenty years. I then moved to the US Department of the Treasury, where I mentored research scientists and worked with them to get their work published.

I retired about five years ago. Now I try to ski as much as possible in the winter and hike and bike in the summer.

In between, I enjoy helping students learn economics. I love working one-on-one with students. That way, I can be sure your questions are answered. I can tailor what we do and talk about directly to you. And most, important, we can focus directly on the material you want to go over.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My philosophy is that most of the stuff we are learning here is easy. Therefore, the teaching and tutoring should match that idea. For example, in economics, the law of supply and demand can be taught using words and pictures, or equations and calculus, or matrices. I use words and pictures.
