I graduated from Swarthmore College in 2014 with a double major in political science and psychology. The following year, I worked at a startup in San Fransisco, and last year I moved to NYC to coordinate a federally sponsored neuroscience research project.
I have an intense passion for learning, and I enjoy sharing that passion through a wide variety of tutoring subjects. My expertise is primarily in the social sciences, but I'm very good at test taking and US history, and I I have also been involved with theater, public speaking, and creative writing for a large part of my life, and I enjoy sharing the knowledge that I've gained from these experiences as well; in fact, one of my favorite things to help people with is finding the best ways to communicate ideas both structurally and semantically in writing and speech, from book reports to college essays.
When I'm not tutoring or conducting research, I like to go rock climbing, perform improv comedy, and write creatively. I also volunteer as a summer camp director with PALS Programs, a nonprofit that supports the Down Syndrome community.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe very strongly that empathy should play a major role in the teaching process. I also enjoy helping people find ways to use the tools they already have to understand a new concept or tackle a new problem.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
The first thing I do is listen. It's helpful for me not only to learn what the student wants to improve on, but also to hear how the student feels about the particular challenge.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
People develop at a very early age the tools and instincts that they will use to learn new things and solve problems for their entire lives. I try to help my students gain confidence in these tools and instincts so that they can trust themselves to learn independently.
