Education has always been of high value and priority in my life. As a daughter of an educator, schooling was always essential in my household. Moving through my academic career I slowly realized that my passion for learning could be turned into a profession. My love of learning and my propensity for compassion led me to become an educator. I am in the process of finishing my Master's Degree in Secondary Education but have my bachelor's in English. Additionally, I have a background in history and certification in K-12 English education.

Currently, I am working as a high school English Teacher in a Blue Ribbon school district in New Jersey. Prior to this position, I worked as a preschool teacher, teacher assistant for special needs students, swim instructor, camp counselor, nanny, and had a practicum and student teaching experience at the middle school and high school level. Beyond my love for the learning process, I genuinely enjoy working with children and young adults. I enjoy working with young people and helping them achieve both academic and personal goals.

I firmly believe that all children can learn and as an educator I strive to create a learning environment that fosters that belief. I also use culturally responsive teaching as well as differentiated instruction to ensure all my students are learning. My enthusiasm and positivity creates for a fun and interactive learning environment where all students are engaged in the learning process. It is my goal to combine my range of experience with my ability to be a compassionate, enthusiastic, intelligent teacher who will make an excellent addition to your child's learning experience.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe all children can learn and I work to help all children learn in a way that is conducive to their particular learning styles.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

One of the first things I would do is sit down with the student and parent to discuss their goals for our tutoring relationship. From there I would do an activity that helps me access my students' interest and learn more about them. I think familiarity is very beneficial to a student teacher relationship.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help my student stay motivated by reminding them of their goals and their accomplishments. I would also encourage them to always push themselves to the best of their ability and tell them that the only people who fail in life are those who refuse to try.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would reevaluate my method of teaching. My teaching style is not helping them learn so I would readjust my teaching style and try again until we find a way of teaching the concept that works for them.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I help students who struggle with reading comprehension by making the task less daunting. I break down the reading with them and focus on smaller parts of the whole. By taking on the smaller parts first (i.e. vocabulary, comprehension, analysis) we can work to understand the bigger picture of the whole work.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would relate the subject to a topic that they are interested and engaged in.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would use assessment strategies like reading check quizzes, exit tickets, discussion, and writing assignments to see if they are understanding and applying the material taught.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I would build a student's confidence in a subject by offering praise and affirmation whenever possible.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I learn my student’s strengths in learning and use those strengths to help them learn effectively. Every student learns differently and I would work to understand how my students learn and adjust my teaching style to match it.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I use books, writing prompts, work sheets, and any assignment the student needs to work on or is struggling with in school.
