As a teacher, I hope to motivate students to do their best and extend their own personal limits. In my classroom, students must commit to a level of performance that challenges them to reach their full potential. This is a valuable lesson that they can apply to their lives beyond the classroom. A classroom is a learning environment for all.
My teaching style is best described as eclectic. While I am focused and organized, I vary my instructional methodologies to incorporate diverse activities and materials to engage and interest all students. What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Typically in the first session I like to get to know the student, the family I will directly be interacting with, explain how to program works, and what is expected of everyone involved. Also during the first session I would like to get a better grasp of the student’s strengths and weaknesses so we can get the most out of our sessions together.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Keep the students engaged, provide multiple ways to find (get to) the final end result, assess frequently, create situations where the student has some control of learning environment, discuss expectations at the beginning, journaling or logging progress.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Learning their likes and dislikes, using different multi-media devices to stay active and up-to-date, give them some control over environment and try to change environment, positive competition.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would identify the point of difficulty and determine whether or not we simply need to review or take a fresh, different approach to the concept to be learned.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Monitor what they do comprehend and what they don't comprehend and use different questioning strategies to get the student to "think about thinking." Use graphic organizers to help with story structure.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I have found that staying active and varying instruction works for me, as well as getting to understand how they learn and their likes and dislikes.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I believe that gearing the content and material towards their likes helps when they are struggling. Also trying to turn it into a game gets many students engaged, or letting them become the teacher turns it around for them to become more involved in the process.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Using formative assessments consistently such as questioning, sharing, hand signals throughout the lesson, as well as a summative assessment as the end of the lesson.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Positive feedback, charting results visually to see progress, identifying strengths and weaknesses.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

使用形成性和终结性评估数字低音usly. Staying active and engaged.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

By varying teaching strategies, using multiple ways to get to the final results, using words or pictures to explain concepts, or changing seats with the student and letting them become the instructor.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Art supplies, gaming materials, prizes or snacks (if allowed), dry erase boards, flash cards, paper/pencils, workbooks, print offs from the internet, progress charts.
