I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I have extensive experience teaching General Education ELA, Honors and Advanced Placement English in grades 9-12, and collaborating closely with an IB-focused English department while teaching in an IB school abroad. I knew I wanted to become an English teacher when I was in high school. Reading and writing has been a long-time passion of mine and I am genuinely excited and inspired by my students. I believe that a positive learning community that nurtures each student’s potential is necessary to develop successful global citizens and lifelong learners. This occurs through the presence of dynamic mentors, innovative and rigorous curriculum and materials, and a profound culture of respect. These factors lead to consistent risk-taking and academic, social, and emotional growth. I am effective at building a classroom environment where students take ownership of their own learning and feel motivated and encouraged by one another and ultimately by my guidance, which contributes to their ongoing success. I am exhilarated by the learning process and my students reflect that attitude. I am an adaptable, flexible and resourceful educator who is always focused on what is best for students. Experienced in using and modifying a variety of strategies in English Language Arts, I am confident in assessing learning and analyzing various forms of data to drive instruction. In addition, my experiences in various leadership roles have helped shape and refine my communication skills and teaching pedagogy. I am enthusiastic and positive when collaborating with colleagues, and truly enjoy learning from them. I believe that every member of a school community is another person who can continue to help me grow as a professional, and my relationships with students, parents, teachers and administrators reflect this attitude.
