Certified Tutor

I believe that a great tutor/teacher is one that can connect with the student and make the material relevant to the interests of the student. I feel that the tutor/teacher needs to not only understand the material but be able to explain the process in more than one way. Often times in Math, there are more than one way to get to the solution of the problem so the teacher needs to be able to see every single possibility and know why the problem can be solved that way.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that one's education is directly tied to how successful a person can be, so I try to make learning as fun and engaging as possible.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would like to get to know them a little better so I would do some "get to know you" activities and then spend some time assessing them to see how much help the student will need.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

你可以帮助一个学生成为一个独立的学习er by increasing their confidence in their ability. I would increase their confidence by using the "I do, we do, you do" approach, which would provide them numerous examples to follow and to guide them to the correct answer.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I help a student stay motivated by doing my best to relate the material we are covering to something that they are interested in or familiar with. That way, the students don't just memorize something, they learn it and that feeling is a part of motivating them.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would refrain from doing the same exact math problem over and over. So, I would show the student a similar problem and try to explain the process that is necessary to solve the type of problem using different terminology or a different problem solving method.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

If I have a student who is struggling with reading comprehension, I will teach them the way that my teachers taught me-- which was to use context clues to draw conclusions about the statements.
