I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

I believe in all of my students and strive to encourage them to enjoy learning through a collaborative approach. Rather than focusing on the answer, I'm driven by the process and believe this is where true learning and understanding occurs. My goal is to enable students to become independent learners by teaching strategies that will help them throughout their studies and relating abstract concepts to real life.

Tutoring and mentoring has long been a passion of mine. As an undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh, I tutored a refugee family; I worked with the two youngest girls in arithmetic and literacy and supported the older high school students in math and English. After graduating, I moved to Denver in 2012 to serve with an AmeriCorps program called City Year. This is where I truly discovered my love of teaching and figuring out ways to creatively engage students in their education. I worked intensively with 9th and 10th grade students at a low-performing public high school to help them get back on track, focusing on evidence-based interventions for Algebra and English. I loved integrating abstract algebraic concepts into relevant examples for my students. I've also lived in France for two years, so I am nearly fluent in French and enjoy sharing the language and culture with others. After City Year, I taught English at a middle and high school in eastern France through the French National Department of Education. While living in France, I also tutored business professionals in English. Currently, I'm working toward my Master of Public Health at the University of Colorado, which combines my interest in education and desire to engage with communities in order to promote better health outcomes.

Academically, I earned a BA in Political Science with a French minor and Global Studies certificate from the University of Pittsburgh. Now I'm in my second and final year of the MPH program at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. My concentrations are Global Health and Health Systems, Management, and Policy, and I will graduate in May 2016.
