I am a senior Political Science major and Chemistry minor at Howard University. Originally from Nigeria, I grew up in Philadelphia. I am a pre-medical student and I plan to apply to medical school next year. I am the daughter of two educators, and two of my older siblings are also teachers/professors. Teaching is in my blood! I first began tutoring formally at age 13 at an after-school program in Philadelphia. I continued in that role until I graduated high school. Once I arrived at Howard, I decided to combine my passion for health care with my love of teaching by becoming a peer health educator. In that role, I teach health education to high school students in the District. I also currently tutor pre-med and other pre-professional students in a variety of science subjects.
I love social studies, sciences, and tests! I genuinely enjoy the critical thinking that standardized tests requires, and love to pass on test-taking strategies to those that I tutor. My favorite MCAT section is the Critical Analysis and Reading Skills, and my favorite SAT section is Verbal. I think these areas are challenging, but every student has immense potential for improvement once they discover the right strategies. In my spare time, I enjoy yoga, cooking, fashion and procrastinating on Buzzfeed.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
A typical first session would be about establishing rapport and creating a study plan. This is my time to listen to my student's needs, goals, and dreams. We are partners in this journey towards the test score of your dreams!
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Homework! Homework gets a bad rep, but spending time on your own is the best way to become comfortable with the material. Students can expect that I will work with them to determine target practice for them to do between sessions. Of course, I will also be there during sessions to review all assigned work and to strengthen weak areas that arise.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would help a student stay motivated by remaining positive at every step of this process. Every wrong response is another opportunity to learn.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Switch it up! It is often important to learn things multiple ways: listen to my explanation, read about it in a text, and watch a video online (or two!) until the concept has been mastered. I believe there is a way for every student to learn anything they need; we just have to figure out the correct strategy for each concept.
What is your teaching philosophy?
我的教学理念是personalization. Every student is different and brings different talents that have to be capitalized upon. I love finding what my students are already good at and using that to solve what they're struggling with.
