Arianne
Certified Tutor
I grew up on the sunny Central Coast of California, and I graduated from Mills College with my BA in French and Francophone Studies. I have worked both as a French and English tutor freelance since 2008 and for Mills College while pursuing my degree there. I have studied in France at the
Universit Paris X Nanterre and at the Universit Paris VIII St. Denis. My professional experience is wide-ranging, and in addition to tutoring, I have taught classical guitar and ballet for many years. I am passionate about teaching and tutoring because I love meeting and connecting with new
people, and each individual is unique. I tailor my approach for every student based on their particular situation, so that each student receives exactly the assistance that they seek. Tutoring, for me, is a rewarding reciprocal experience; I learn as much from my students as they do from me.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is that it is important to create a supportive, safe learning environment, where every student feels comfortable asking questions and learning. I work hard to understand each student's particular learning style so that I am able to impart information in the manner that is best for that student. I also use examples that are directly applicable to the student's situation, and I try to find creative ways to express ideas and material, so that even if something is confusing when presented from one perspective, perhaps it will be clear when presented from another perspective.
