My interest in science dates back to my years in grammar and middle school where I was fascinated with nature and how scientific events occurred. In high school, I was passionate about learning biology and chemistry and received an A in both courses. It seemed only logical that I should pursue a career as a biologist or chemist and perhaps become a researcher.
When I began my undergraduate career at the University of Scranton, I was blessed with many opportunities to learn biology so I decided to major in it. I also found the humanity courses such as philosophy and psychology interesting. I decided to minor in philosophy and decided to take pre-med courses.

I plan on to pursue a career in medicine focusing on sports medicine, psychiatry or pediatrics. I hope to continue to tutor in the subjects I am knowledgable in and I'm sure my 3 years of experience teaching students will only improve during my undergraduate career and post graduate career.

What is your teaching philosophy?

我不会搬到一个不同的主题,直到我tutee understands the present topic thoroughly.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Play an icebreaker to get through the awkward first moments, then learn cool facts about each student.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Make sure the student reads his/her books or notes before each session.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Make sure to keep up your GPA.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I read the passage with the student, making sure to focus on key material.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Making sure to get to know the students.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Ask questions about difficult questions on the material.

Telling him/her that they're doing a great job.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I slow down if it is needed.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

My notes.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would explain it to them in the simplest way, and move on to a more complex explanation. I would also use analogies to help them better understand the skill or concept.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would tell them it might make them feel invincible and that they can accomplish any difficult task.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I would ask them what they feel uneasy with.
