What is your teaching philosophy?
Sometimes students do not understand the theory, because it has too much math or graphs or you do not know to answer an assignment. In those cases they need simple, practical explanations with examples. That is what I do. In a few words, I help students to improve their comprehension and grades. There is an old English saying: "There are no bad students, there are bad teachers".
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
My work begins before the first session. I ask the student to send me by email the syllabus, the name of the textbook and the assignments that he/she wants to discuss. I dedicate a substantial amount of time to prepare the meetings, collecting the appropriate course materials and establishing tailor-made examples. In the first session, after breaking the ice, I ask again about the student needs.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I provide students with additional course materials. In that way, they can work without the tutor. One example is the videos available on the Internet; most of the time students do not know what to watch.
