I graduated from Fort Lewis College in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. I tutored for the college for two years, in both a walk in setting and in one-on-one sessions. I take a personal approach to tutoring, and I like to get to know my students so that I can find the most effective teaching method for them. Through my previous experience, I know how to approach nearly every concept from multiple directions, a a skill that I believe is key in successfully tutoring math.
Otherwise I just love to have fun, and I firmly believe that letting a tutoring session be dull and boring is the quickest way to ruin the whole experience. The strongest connections are ones we make ourselves, so I always strive to engage my students and let them discover important concepts on their own (with a little guidance of course). A tutoring session with me will never break down into a lecture (I think we get enough of that in school anyway), and I always maintain a positive atmosphere where students can be engaged and interested.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy hiking and rock climbing (recently archery as well), or just simply being outdoors at all. This is all especially easy here in a state like Colorado, where I've been for most my life. Like most my age, I also spend rather a lot of time indoors playing video games or working on personal projects (many of these in the programming language Python). I also enjoy reading fiction, my favorite book being Jupiter by Ben Bova, followed closely by the Foundation series by Issac Asimov. I love meeting new people and I'm always looking for suggestions on new things to try.
