Certified Tutor

My passion for, knowledge of, and experience in teaching and learning are strong. I was my high school’s Valedictorian and I earned the honors of Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude from Middlebury College, a top ranked liberal arts college in Vermont. My BA is in Spanish, with minors in French and Education Studies. I’m a Highly Qualified licensed teacher with several happy and productive years in the classroom under my belt. I have studied and tutored a wide range of subjects, mostly in world languages and the humanities, but also including physics and AP Calculus.

I teach because I love people and knowledge, and want to use my intellect, positivity, patience, curiosity and energy to inspire and assist young people in recognizing and achieving both their personal goals and the requisite skills for success in school and life.

My teaching is based largely on my almost-decade of study/practice and my amalgamation of the best ideas and practices of educational scholars (Dewey, Wiggins & McTighe...), the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, and educational psychologists and sociologists (Bonfenbrenner, Vygotsky, Gardner...). The following is a very condensed summary of my educational philosophy: Know your subject and your audience. Observe and listen. Communicate clearly and honestly. Hold and articulate high, achievable goals and standards. Scaffold and tailor instruction to meet individual needs. Provide regular, structured, personalized feedback. Acknowledge what has been done well and achieved. Indicate areas and provide help to improve. Be flexible. Honor individuals for who they are. Enjoy the process. Never give up.
