Certified Tutor

I am an energetic and enthusiastic college student who loves working with both high school and college students of all backgrounds and interests. I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Hispanic Linguistics program at the University of Arizona, and have previously earned a B.A. in Spanish and Linguistics with a minor in Gender and Women's Studies and an M.A. in Hispanic Linguistics. Above all, I strive to identify students' learning styles and preferences and to help them not only understand material but also see how it is relevant to them. And ideally, students will have fun in the process! In terms of experience, I currently teach Spanish courses at the University of Arizona, and I have worked as a math tutor in public middle and high schools and a math, English composition, and Spanish tutor for the University of Arizona, where I became a certified Advanced Tutor by the College Reading and Learning Association. I have also worked with students of Spanish as a foreign language and students of Spanish as a heritage language, helping to improve not only the four main linguistic abilities, but also cultural and metalinguistic knowledge, all while increasing confidence. My work as a mentor and peer advisor in student retention programs has also equipped me with the tools to help students succeed as independent learners. In addition to course material, I help students learn how to develop effective study habits and how to adapt their preferences and styles to specific disciplines and instructors.
