I went back to school after listening to some advertisement on the radio telling me how I could become more than what I was at the time. I was 38, had my own company doing remodeling and subcontracting doing my best for my family trying to make the bills each month. I worked alone most of the time and worked long hours. The radio would tell us successful stories of those who graduated finally being able to do what they always dreamt of doing.
When I received my first career job after all those long hours and long drives to the classes after work, I knew it would pay off. It took me from the time I was 38 to the time I am at now to fully understand what the work environment is fundamentally needing. What they need to learn is not taught from a book or video. It is learned from taking risks and failing, and it learned from teaching others how to problem solve and to be inventive in their thinking and in their solutions.
Sometimes it may be well received by the populace, and most of the time it will not, but you know what needs to be done and you are the one they chose because of your skill sets and disciplines. They chose you for the position of engineer or senior designer because you know how to fix what others have broken and you can demonstrate it by your discipline and trained knowledge that you gained.
I taught my drafters, designers, engineers, and co workers, the disciplines it takes be a good drafters, designers, and engineers. I explained to them it takes communication, team effort and a focused mind to accomplish these tasks. Sometimes it will be fun and other times it will stressful, but remember always in the back of your mind, the company hired you because of your disciplined training and your ability to think outside of the box. They did not hire you to socialize and tell stories around the break room. There is a time for that but not on the company's dime.
Most of the people who take on the career of becoming an engineer, designer, drafter, or manufacture are people who are specialized in their fields, and it is these type of people who speak a different language than the average punch clock worker. They always say things like, "what if we did it this way?", and how much money could we save if we did it that way. Of course it's not a perfect world and your academic skills will get you in the door but it will not always train you to be innovative, creative or disciplined. This can be applied to any trade or company position.
I can teach you these skills with my experiences. I want to share with someone who shows interest in not only how to be good at what they do, but also can be workable and flexible, when it does not always go their way because of a corporate decision. I want to pre pare the young academic student for the real responses that they will have to face, sometimes difficult and sometimes rewarding. You can't learn that in a book or a video.
I can show the learner the right way to approach a difficult subject. I can teach good organizational and management skills in documentation and manufactured drawings. I can show you from my own passion on how to study the stars and learn the history of how they came into being. I can teach things that you may have only heard about but never realized, like matter has memory.
My passion:
I love to create, design, invent and improve what is in front of me. It is why I hold over 120 safety certificates in Haz wopper. Why I am the creator and designer of 7 patents in the UAV industry. It is why I am self teaching myself robotics and designing working a team of professors that I met while learning about it.
My hobbies.
RC anything is a big one, I love to work on model trains and create my own models in 3D using my programs to print them out with absolute finite details. I love to work in wood and build things, from furniture to flying drones that I designed myself out of wood and plastic.
My style of teaching.
I like to listen to the student or what the employee is asking, and I will do my research to have the most correct answer I can find. If I don't know the answer I will simply say I don't know and see if together we can still find the solution. You should know that I am passing on to you, not only my skills, disciplines, and experiences, but also my desire to make you the best you can be in your thinking and how to handle problems that may face.
I have never tutored anyone other than the workers that the company hired me to teach. But I know with the right person young or old, I can help them achieve more than being a "good engineer, designer, drafter, etc." and show them how to reach their potential if given a chance to show them.
My favorite subject to teach is science and "asking what if?" It is why I became a published author of a book explaining that what we were taught academically over the years and from history will change with new information and newer tools that measure those changes.
