When I was forced to enroll in a foreign language class in high school, I was not thrilled about it. In fact, it was my least favorite class. I performed well enough to receive an A every time, but it was knowledge I expected to fade away as soon as the class requirement was fulfilled. I continued taking French against my will at the University of Minnesota College of Liberal Arts because, once again, it was required to graduate. And again, I learned as much as I needed to pass tests and get a good grade, but I didn't care about retaining the information. However, a funny thing happened: a lot of the information was being retained automatically, without any effort on my part and without me even being aware of it. One day, I just realized I knew a lot more than I thought I did. I actually started enjoying my French classes. I instinctively started focusing on getting the accent down. That was a true milestone, a turning point. To this day, I believe mimicry is the key to impressing both native speakers and teachers. And when they are impressed you get a boost in confidence, which leads you to want to keep learning. After taking a Linguistics class, I became even more interested in language and went on to study Italian, Phonetics, and Communication Disorders. I love helping people, and find teaching very rewarding. I will be your coach, offering encouragement and getting rid of fear and anxiety. I will listen to your goals, and tailor our sessions to fit your needs. If you are in love with language learning, I will share in your excitement. If you hate it and just need to pass some tests, hey, been there, I get that too. No judgement here, only results.
